Limassol which is the second largest town of Cyprus and its biggest Municipality as well has experienced enormous development after the unfortunate events that took place when the Turks invaded in 1974. However Lemesos has since then become one of the most significant tourism, trade and service-providing centre in the area. Lemesos is widely known for its long cultural tradition. Limassol Castle is a place worthy of visit. It contains the Cyprus Medieval Museum, or the Folk Art Museum, which is housed in an old mansion. You will also find miles of wonderful beaches, fairly known as the Cypriot Riviera. Do a short stroll in the sea promenade or visit the blossoming Municipal Gardens.

Limassol is noted for its festivals, like the Carnival and Wine Festival. During the 10 day Limassol Carnival festival the town is filled with cheerful and amusing masquerades. This custom has its roots back to pagan rituals in ancient Greek times, but as time went by, it gained a different, purely entertaining character. The festival begins when the King’s Carnival parade enters, followed by a fancy-dress competition for children.
